Abstract

Abstract: his study aims to examine in depth the role of school principals in strengthening Islamic education management in pesantren-based educational institutions in Indonesia, as well as to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. The study employs a qualitative approach with a multisite research design conducted across several pesantren-based schools. The research participants include principals, vice principals, teachers, and pesantren administrators selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out using an interactive analysis model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Meanwhile, the validity of the data was ensured through source and method triangulation, as well as member checking. The findings reveal that school principals play a crucial and strategic role in designing and strengthening Islamic education management. In this context, principals act as educational leaders who are capable of integrating the national curriculum with the pesantren curriculum, developing participatory educational planning involving all elements of the school and pesantren, and implementing educational programs oriented toward the development of religious character, moral values, and Islamic culture. Furthermore, the success of strengthening Islamic education management is influenced by several supporting factors, including the strong commitment of the principal, collaboration between teachers and pesantren administrators, support from parents and the community, as well as a religious school environment.
