KONTRIBUSI DR HJ. SURYANI THAHIR DALAM MEMBINA PEMAHAMAN AGAMA MASYARAKAT DKI JAKARTA

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of Dr. Hj. Suryani Thahir in strengthening and developing religious understanding among the people of DKI Jakarta. This research is motivated by the important role of Islamic scholars and religious figures in guiding urban communities that are diverse, dynamic, and continuously challenged by modern social changes. Dr. Hj. Suryani Thahir is recognized as an influential figure actively involved in Islamic preaching (da’wah), community religious education, and the reinforcement of Islamic values within Jakarta’s society. The objectives of this study are to describe the forms of Dr. Hj. Suryani Thahir’s contribution to improving religious understanding in DKI Jakarta, to analyze the strategies and methods applied in her religious guidance efforts and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors influencing the implementation of her contribution. This research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data analysis process includes data reduction, data display, and drawing systematic conclusions. The findings indicate that Dr. Hj. Suryani Thahir’s contribution is manifested through routine Islamic lectures, thematic religious gatherings, the guidance of majelis taklim (Islamic study groups), and the reinforcement of moral and spiritual values in daily life. Her da’wah methods emphasize bil hikmah (wisdom), mau’izhah hasanah (good advice), and dialogical communication tailored to the needs of urban society. Furthermore, Dr. Hj. Suryani Thahir promotes a moderate, educational, and contextual approach, enabling religious messages to be accepted widely without creating resistance. This study concludes that Dr. Hj. Suryani Thahir plays a significant role in enhancing the religious understanding of the people of DKI Jakarta, both in terms of religious knowledge, worship practices, and the development of a more positive religious attitude. This research is expected to provide academic references for studies on women’s contributions in Islamic da’wah and offer practical insights for improving strategies of religious guidance in urban communities.
